Here’s How Chin Filler Completely Changed My Face

Clemens Face + Body | Brookline, Boston

Like many people, I initially thought of filler as something mainly used for lips or cheeks. Chin filler wasn’t something I had seriously considered until I began noticing subtle changes in my facial proportions over time. Before coming to Clemens Face + Body, I had consulted with a well-known injector who placed only half a syringe of filler and ultimately recommended buccal fat removal surgery to address my concerns. The suggestion didn’t sit quite right with me, so I decided to seek a second opinion.

This is when I met Jo. We took a step back and looked at the structure of my entire lower face, and after treatment, I realized just how much impact this area can have on my entire face. Looking back, it’s one of the treatments I wish I had done sooner.

Consultation to Treatment

We started the appointment with a thorough consultation. Jo walked me through the anatomy of the lower face and explained why the chin often changes over time. She broke down how gradual bone loss in the jaw and chin can alter the balance of the lower face and affect how the profile looks. The goal was to understand how the chin related to the rest of my facial structure before deciding on any treatment.

Understanding the Chin’s Role in Facial Balance

During the consultation, Jo explained something that I hadn’t really considered before: how much the chin plays a role in how the entire face is perceived. When the chin loses projection, even slightly, the jawline can appear softer and it just feels like your face is melting. I also noticed how much more tired and aged I looked and ultimately felt.

We agreed on treating the entire chin complex, which includes: chin shadows (the areas adjacent to the actual chin that loses volume and thickness over time), the anterior jawline, and the actual chin point. The ultimate goal was to create a chin that complemented my jawline and lips.

The Treatment Approach

Once we agreed on the plan, Jo explained how the filler would be placed and how much product would likely be needed. The total amount came out to 4 syringes of filler, which resulted in an investment of $2500. While this was slightly higher than what I budgeted for, she explained that the results will last years.

My Biggest Concern Going In

Before the appointment, I had one main concern: ending up with an overly exaggerated chin.

This was addressed during the consultation, before I even had a chance of mentioning it. She explained that one of the dead-giveaway signs that someone has had chin filler is when too much is placed in the point of most projection, ultimately giving a “witch chin.” When done thoughtfully, chin filler is meant to restore structure and proportion, not create something unnatural.

Hearing that made the whole process feel much more reassuring.

What I Noticed Afterward

The changes were subtle, but they made a noticeable difference. My jawline appeared more defined and my profile looked more balanced.

What surprised me most was that people couldn’t immediately identify what had changed. Several friends simply mentioned that I looked more refreshed or put together, which is exactly the type of result I was hoping for.

The Healing Process

The recovery process was fairly straightforward. In the first few days after treatment, there was some mild swelling and tenderness around the chin, which Jo had explained was completely normal. The area felt slightly firm at first, but this gradually softened as the filler began to settle into the surrounding tissue.

Over the following week, the swelling continued to resolve and the overall shape of the chin became more defined. As the filler integrated with the rest of the tissue, the results began to look more natural and balanced.

About two weeks after the treatment, I returned for a follow-up visit. During this review, Jo assessed how the filler had settled and evaluated the overall balance of the lower face. This appointment allowed us to make sure the results were progressing as expected and that the chin was integrating harmoniously with the rest of my facial structure.

Almost 1 Year After Treatment

Almost a year after my treatment, I came across an old passport photo that had been taken before I had my chin treated. Seeing it next to more recent photos made the difference much clearer to me. Before the treatment, my lower face appeared slightly shorter and less defined, somehow making my overall face appear more hollow. But after treatment, my facial shape looked more structured and my jawline appeared more defined. I couldn’t believe it.

No Regrets

When I first considered the treatment, I knew going in that the investment would be significant. That was something I thought carefully about beforehand. But looking back nearly a year later, I don’t regret it. The result has held up well, and the subtle improvement in my facial balance continues to show in photos and in everyday life.

The entire process helped me see fillers in a different light. Rather than something that requires constant upkeep, chin filler and other filler treatments function more as a structural investment. When placed carefully, the filler eventually integrates with the surrounding tissue and continues to support the face as it ages.

Nearly a year later, I still feel that the result reflects exactly what I hoped for: a natural improvement in balance that enhances my features without changing the character of my face. More importantly, it matters who you choose as your injector.
