We employ the use of blunt cannula subcision, chemical peels, non-chemical peels, deep microneedling, fillers, and collagen stimulators. Acne revision is a tedious process that requires the use of multiple different types of treatments to resurface the skin.
-
Subcision involves using a long, metallic instrument called a cannula that is placed just beneath the skin. The cannula is used to break apart individual fibers that tether scars down, causing the dimpling effect seen in many patients suffering from long-term acne.
-
We may deploy the use of a diluted steroid that contains a powerful anti-inflammatory. When it is injected directly into a cyst or pimple, it helps to quickly reduce inflammation, redness, flatten the lesion, prevents delayed healing.
-
Yes, we do. Conventional fillers can be highly beneficial in improving the appearance of scars due to several reasons: Collagen stimulation, hydration, and plumping depressed scars. Fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid, the moisture molecule in the skin. When deposited beneath the skin, the gel-like product fills depressions and craters, causes collagen growth due to mechanical stimulation, and absorbs water to create a healthy, hydrated look.
-
Yes. When acne lesions heal, the skin can regrow in an abnormal way. Using collagen-stimulators allow us to target large areas of the face that may be impacted by abnormal scarring.
-
We do not utilize energy-based devices as part of our treatment plans. Our plans are best suited for patients who exhibit scarring that do not require this level of intervention, cannot afford the downtime of lasers, or are simply laser-sensitive or -averse. However, should a patient present with scarring that is best suited for lasers, we are happy to provide referrals.
-
Scars can be highly debilitating and can affect a person in every aspect of their life. Part of the consultation process is managing the expectations of individuals. Therefore, it is important to note that 100% erasure of scarring is the exception to the rule, but all patients report a significant improvement in the appearance of scars.
-
This is highly dependent on the type of scars and severity. In general, we advise patients that scar treatments are long-term treatments requiring a multimodal approach. A majority of patients can expect to see improvement in 2-4 weeks post-treatment. As more time passes and with more treatments, improvement is markedly increased, as collagen stimulation occurs.
deep microneedling
Also known as collagen-induction treatment (CIT), microneedling uses a small electronic device containing several tiny (or micro) needles that deliver shallow punctures in the skin. These micro-punctures generate a controlled inflammatory response, which in turn, stimulates the production of collagen and elastin over time, and increases the absorption of topical products by up to 400%.
Our microneedling treatments aim at going deeper into the layers of the skin, utilizing a needle depth that is suitable only in medical-office settings. Deeper penetration allows for greater collagen induction and promotes long-term skin healing.

Please come with a fresh face - no make-up. Your face will be cleansed and prepped for treatment, so do not worry about needing to wash your face beforehand.
Please stop all skincare actives for at least 1 week prior to treatment.
-
UV Protection: The avoidance of direct sunlight is very important during the skin healing process. We highly recommend using SPF or other sun-protective mechanisms to minimize skin burns and hyperpigmentation.
Avoiding Actives: As the skin is very sensitive during the healing process, we recommend patients avoid any irritating, potent actives for at least 1-2 weeks post-treatment.
Hands-Off: Patients may be tempted to touch their face or skin after treatments, but we recommend not doing so to minimize the risk of introducing bacteria.
Recovery: As always, it is best to live a healthy lifestyle to promote skin recovery. This includes proper hydrating, adequate and good quality sleep, and eating balanced diet rich in fiber and protein.

Most people describe the pain as an uncomfortable sensation rather than acute pain. On areas where there is less fat (forehead), sensation can be heightened. Every patient receives topical numbing beforehand to increase comfort during the procedure.
-
Most likely you may be told to hold a few skincare ingredients temporarily while the skin recovers. We can also recommend other products or ingredients to introduce to your skincare based on specific concerns.
-
The most difficult part about collagen-building treatments is the wait-time. You can usually expect improvements within 2 weeks, but significant collagen regeneration can take 6-8 weeks to see a visible impact. Think of it as a 401K for the face - patience, time, and consistency are needed to see your return of investment.
-
Absolutely. Microneedling aids in angiogenesis, which is the process of new vessel formation. As a result, more blood flow allows for more delivery of healing agents that decreases inflammation, heat, and impaired circulation.
